Alexander Ribbink is a Partner of Prime Ventures. Alexander brings over 20 years in international marketing, sales and general management to Prime. He has worked extensively in fast moving consumer goods and technology industries. Key areas of functional expertise include branding, international growth and market entry, innovation and strategy.
Before joining Prime in 2010, Alexander was board member and Chief Operating Officer of TomTom, the personal navigation company. Alexander played a major role in the international growth and marketing success of this global technology company. More than 45 million TomTom personal navigation devices have since found their way into people’s cars around the world – and counting! When he joined TomTom in 2003 the company’s turnover was in the tens of millions of Euros, when he left in 2008 the company’s turnover was approaching EUR 1.8 billion. Alexander was part of the leadership team that IPO-ed the company on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange in 2005.
Prior to his time at TomTom he held a number of senior directors’ positions at MARS Inc. and Unilever NV, living and working in Paris, London and the Hamburg area. Alexander holds an MA degree in Law from the University of Amsterdam and an MBA degree from the Rotterdam School of Management. He spent part of his MBA education in Evanston, USA at the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Alexander serves as the chairman of the board of the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam, as a trustee of the Turing and Ribbink-van den Hoek foundations, as a trustee of Het Amsterdams Lyceum, and as a non-executive director of Koninklijke Tichelaar, Makkum. Alexander was awarded Marketeer of the Year and Advertising Man of the year. Key communication and advertising campaigns received the prestigious golden European EFFIE awards for effectiveness.
