Roel is a Partner at Prime Ventures which he joined as Venture Partner in 1999. He became full time partner in 2008.

Before his tenure at Prime, Roel was a successful angel investor and entrepreneur in internet and software companies, through which he gained expertise and considerable experience in international sales and marketing. He (co-)founded a number of companies, including Hot-Orange where he was CEO.

Prior to starting Hot-Orange Roel was a key employee at Dutch-based software company Prolin. As senior vice president for strategic alliances he played a significant role in the successful acquisition of Prolin by Hewlett-Packard in 1997.

Roel holds a BA degree in Business Administration.

Roel served on the board of directors of Human Inference (sold to GIMV), Falcon (acquired by Cision Ltd.), Genkey, Mendix (acquired by Siemens) and Q-Go (acquired by RightNow). He currently serves on the board of AppLift and Bright Computing.
